More Than Pipes: Building a Stronger Community, One Connection at a Time

Chris Collins • October 4, 2026

We spend a lot of our days fixing leaks, clearing drains, repairing plumbing systems, and helping homes and businesses get back to normal but some of the most meaningful work happens outside of plumbing.

It happens when local businesses, families, volunteers, animal lovers, car enthusiasts, and organizations come together for something bigger than themselves. That’s exactly what we love about this kind of event. This year Horsepower for Hounds brought together motorcycles, classic cars, trucks, Jeeps, custom rides, music, vendors, food, raffles, and vehicle washes.

But behind all the chrome, engines, music, and excitement was something much more important: helping dogs in need and supporting Misfit Hounds Rescue. That’s what made the day special. It wasn’t simply a car and bike show. It was a reminder of what can happen when a community shows up with a shared purpose.

Being a local business means more than serving customers. It means being present when our community needs support. And year after year, Collins Plumbing makes it a point to show up and stand alongside Bloody Fork Haunt in their mission to help the community. Their commitment to bringing people together, supporting local causes, and helping organizations in our community is something we truly believe in.

Whether it’s through events like Horsepower for Hounds, local fundraisers, or causes that deserve more attention, we’re proud to support the people and organizations working to make a difference because sometimes the biggest impact starts with something simple:

Showing up. Caring. And choosing to help.

We’re grateful to everyone who made Horsepower for Hounds another meaningful community event, and this is only one part of what’s ahead.

The Community Support Continues at Bloody Fork Haunt

As part of our continued support for Bloody Fork Haunt and the work they do in our community, Collins Plumbing is also proud to be one of the sponsors of this year’s biggest haunt season.

Bloody Fork Haunt is bringing the scares back to East Tennessee with plenty of opportunities to visit throughout the season. They’re open every Friday and Saturday from 7:30 PM to midnight, so there’s still time to experience the haunt for yourself.

And it’s not all about the scares. They also have special events planned for families and the community:

  • Family Days — October 10 & 17 | 11 AM–4 PM
Enjoy a daytime visit filled with family-friendly activities.
  • Trick-or-Treat — October 25 | 1 PM–4 PM
Bring the family out for an afternoon of Halloween fun and trick-or-treating.
  • Bonus Night — October 25 | 7:30 PM–10 PM
Come back after dark for an extra night of scares.
  • Extreme Night — November 1 | 7 PM–10 PM
For those looking for an even more intense way to close out haunt season.

Events like these are another reason we’re proud to support Bloody Fork Haunt. They don’t just bring entertainment to East Tennessee — they continue creating opportunities for people to come together while using their platform to support local causes and organizations.

And our work in the community doesn’t stop here. With more community events coming up, Collins Plumbing will continue doing our part to support local causes, stand behind our neighbors, and help strengthen the community we’re proud to call home.

At Collins Plumbing, we may work with pipes every day, but some of the strongest connections we help build are the ones within our community. ❤️🐾

Don't Let a Storm Leave Behind Costly Surprises After the recent heavy rains across Jonesborough and the Tri-Cities area, many homeowners are breathing a sigh of relief now that the skies have cleared. But while the storm may be over, your home's drainage and plumbing systems could still be dealing with the aftermath. Heavy rainfall can overwhelm gutters, outdoor drains, and drainage systems. When water isn't able to flow away from your property properly, it can lead to standing water, foundation issues, drainage backups, and costly repairs down the road. The good news? A simple walk around your property after a storm can help you spot potential problems early and prevent bigger issues later. Why Proper Drainage Matters Your home's drainage system plays a critical role in protecting your property from water damage. Its job is to direct rainwater safely away from your home and foundation. When outdoor drains become clogged or gutters overflow, water has nowhere to go. As a result, it can: * Pool around your home's foundation * Seep into crawl spaces or basements * Contribute to soil erosion around your property * Increase the risk of mold and mildew growth * Put extra strain on your drainage and plumbing systems Even minor drainage issues can worsen over time if left unchecked, especially during periods of frequent rainfall. 4 Quick Checks Every Homeowner Should Make After Heavy Rain 1. Check Outdoor Drains for Debris Leaves, mulch, dirt, and other debris can easily block outdoor drains during a storm. Take a quick walk around your yard and inspect any visible drainage grates or catch basins. Remove any debris that may be preventing water from flowing properly. If you notice standing water that remains several hours after the rain has stopped, there may be a blockage that needs attention. 2. Inspect Gutters and Downspouts Your gutters and downspouts are your home's first line of defense against water damage. Look for: * Overflowing gutters * Sagging sections * Loose connections * Debris buildup * Downspouts discharging water too close to your foundation Water should be directed several feet away from your home whenever possible. Properly functioning gutters can help prevent foundation problems and water intrusion. 3. Look for Standing Water Near Your Foundation Walk around the perimeter of your home and pay attention to areas where water may be collecting. Water should always flow away from your foundation. If you notice puddles or soggy areas near exterior walls, your property may need grading improvements or drainage adjustments. Ignoring these warning signs can lead to foundation settling, cracks, and moisture problems over time. 4. Watch for Plumbing Warning Signs Inside Your Home Heavy rain can sometimes reveal hidden drainage problems. Keep an eye out for: * Slow-draining sinks or tubs * Gurgling noises from drains * Unpleasant odors near drains * Water backing up where it shouldn't These symptoms may indicate a developing drainage issue that could worsen during future storms. When Should You Call a Professional? While many drainage concerns can be identified through a simple inspection, some issues require professional attention. Consider contacting a plumbing professional if you notice: * Persistent standing water * Recurring drain backups * Multiple slow drains throughout the home * Sewage odors * Water pooling near your foundation after every rainstorm Addressing these issues early can help prevent more extensive and expensive repairs later. A Few Minutes of Prevention Can Save You Thousands Many plumbing and drainage problems don't happen overnight. They often begin as small issues that go unnoticed until they become major headaches. Taking a few minutes to inspect your property after heavy rain can help you identify potential concerns before they lead to water damage, drainage failures, or costly repairs. Heavy rain may be unavoidable, but the damage it can cause often isn't. If you have concerns about your home's drainage system, outdoor drains, or plumbing after recent storms, the team at Collins Plumbing is here to help. We proudly serve Jonesborough and the Tri-Cities area with professional plumbing, drain cleaning, and drain inspection services designed to keep your home protected year-round.
